Me Before You

Being an avid reader I’m constantly on the lookout for a new book to seize my attention.
It makes waiting on film sets, travelling the cumbersome tube and sunny afternoons in the park some of the loveliest moments of any day... plus you normally learn a thing or two.

I recently finished the book ‘Me before you’.
In short it tells the tale of a man – Will - plunged into life as a quadriplegic after a terrible accident. Just as he is giving up on everything he meets the eccentric Lou who gives him a new perspective on life.

I think Good Housekeeping described it best when they said it’s  ‘Heartbreaking yet ultimately uplifting’.
Comparable to One Day’s Emma and Dex, it’s certainly one for an afternoon on the sofa with a box of tissues.
Now go away and check it out!
Make sure you let me know what you think :).

 .............

Full Synopsis:

Lou Clark knows lots of things. She knows how many footsteps there are between the bus stop and home. She knows she likes working in The Buttered Bun tea shop and she knows she might not love her boyfriend Patrick. What Lou doesn't know is she's about to lose her job or that knowing what's coming is what keeps her sane.
Will Traynor knows his motorcycle accident took away his desire to live. He knows everything feels very small and rather joyless now and he knows exactly how he's going to put a stop to that. What Will doesn't know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows they're going to change the other for all time.

RUSH

This week I worked on the 2013 Hollywood blockbuster 'Rush' starring the ever fanciable Chris Hemsworth and directed by the brilliant Ron Howard.
For those who don’t know, the film is a biography of formula 1 champion driver Niki Lauda and the 1976 crash that almost claimed his life.
It was an honour to watch and be directed by Ron Howard and it was certainly not hard to get into character of being one of Hemsworth’s many girls; yes ladies he looks ridiculously hot in real life too!

What wasn’t quite so pleasant was leaving my flat at 3:15am to get to set on time.
Anyway enough whining...
I can’t tell you much more about the filming due to infringement but here are some behind the scenes snapshots.

Loving the fake crowd!

BBC Foam Party

A brilliant surgeon upon TV show 'Parents' imagines his perfect work environment - Obv a foam party.

The best part about it was having my great friend Laura to accompany me on the foam dance floor.

Twas rather silly watching everyone dance around in foam completely sober, in the middle of a day and nowhere near the envisaged Ibiza.

Plus it was only half an hour filming; though it took up most of the day due to travel time and general waiting around.

23!

It was my 23rd birthday yesterday and may I just say, one of the best ever! .... or at least since I used to play stuck in the mud in my back yard.
Too often once you reach a certain age, the silliness, the joy and excitement leaves the occasion. Luckily I have some ridiculous friends who were able to bring it back.

My day started with a call from the agent asking to attend a sports casting.
These are my favourite kinds as not only do I feel confident in the clothing but they also ask you to do ridiculous things such as push ups, dance poses and squats.

Such a gorgeous ride in to central.

After that it was time for sushi in the park, yoga poses/handstands in front of Buckingham Palace and making friends with squirrels.
For a long while we amused ourselves playing hammer throw, javelin, volleyball and tennis; all of which without any equipment, obvs.
Yes the park was heavily crowded at the time.
Yes we looked like we were on drugs.

Later I went for dinner with my boyfriend James, my younger sister Penny and her boyfriend Matt.
We went to a place called Bill’s in Covent Garden.
Whilst it is in a rather grand location, I loved the relaxed vibe to the place, the friendly staff and simple menu.

Next it was off to the bowling alley in Russell Square that looked rather Will Ferrell/Anchor man sleaze.
Upon bowling Penny and I quickly realised we were useless.
This was not helped by the boys both bowling a strike on their first attempt.

So that was how I spent my birthday.
Full of laughter, food and silly activities what more can you ask for?
And it’s not over yet... going to the Box with some close gf’s tonight!

Special K

I have long admired the special K ethos of using strong, confident, healthy women in their advertising and so was delighted when my agent told me I had been shortlisted for their new campaign.
Interestingly you need to have a BMI of 20 to be able to model for them.
I only wish everyone brand did this as it would quite literally change the industry overnight.

Although I turned up in the world renowned red dress, I was quickly told that the entire casting was to take place in the pool.

Without looking at my portfolio, the casting director gave me a quick overview of what I had to do, namely make a variety of flattering and strong shapes underwater without blowing out bubbles (as that is not pretty).
A weight belt was attached around my stomach to insure I stayed under (more like to help me drown!)

Lucky I grew up on an island off the coast of Australia, so swimming is my forte.

The casting was intense.
With large periods of time spent underwater and few seconds in-between each take, I soon became exhausted.
Although the director said I was the best they had seen underwater, they feel I'm a bit too young looking for the brand, but we'll see.
Fingers crossed one day I’ll be grinning up at you from the side of a cereal box!

Room 101

Well this was certainly a ridiculous day’s work; back to the BBC for Room 101.
The gorgeous Alexa and I were to come out at the end of the show in the letters ‘1’ with a male crew member as the ‘0’.
Needles to say we were a little shocked when we found out – our agent never mentioned this!

It turned into one of the most hilarious days of 2012.
The costume made simple things like walking rather difficult so we were chaperoned everywhere back stage, crab walking like twats.
Alexa has a very poor sense of direction and with hindsight should not have gone out first.
It made for one messy rehearsal and I think Frank Skinner considered cutting us.

You gotta love the dressing rooms in this place!
